Joey Barton: Police prevent Fleetwood Town boss from leaving Oakwell following assault allegations on Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel

Footage has emerged of Fleetwood boss Joey Barton being prevented from leaving Oakwell following accusations he assaulted Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel.

The alleged incident happened after Town’s 4-2 defeat at Barnsley in League One.

It is understood Barton and Stendel had to be separated after the full-time whistle but the former Manchester City player reportedly followed his opposite number towards the dressing rooms.

Tykes forward Cauley Woodrow took to Twitter to describe the incident, claiming Stendel had blood pouring from his face afterwards. The post has since been deleted.

Woodrow tweeted:  â€Å“Firstly @ftfc to have a manager that can physically assault another manager in the tunnel is disgusting, causing our manager to have blood pouring from his face!!

â€Å“People like you don’t deserve a place in the game of football you are foul. Secondly fantastic win today @BarnsleyFC”.

On the incident, Barnsley said in a statement: “The club can confirm there was an alleged incident in the tunnel area that took place following the conclusion of today’s match, which South Yorkshire police are currently investigating.

“The club is assisting the police with its enquiries and, as a result, we are not in a position to make any further comment at this time.”

Arsenal target Nicolas Tagliafico scores calamitous own goal for Ajax in Eredivisie clash

Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico scored an embarrassing own goal during a routine win for the Eredivisie giants against the division’s bottom club FC Emmen.

Tagliafico, who has reportedly rejected a new deal in Amsterdam amid interest from Arsenal, did a simple back pass to his goalkeeper only for the ball to end up in the net.

With 29 minutes to go and Ajax 5-0 up, Tagliafico was in the left-back position and decided to play it safe by giving possession to Andre Onana.

But his ball back to Onana gathered pace and rolled past the keeper as he tried to keep it out.

Emmen scored another goal but Ajax, who have not won the league in five years, secured a 5-2 victory to move ahead of title rivals PSV Eindhoven.

Tagliafico is a talented player but this clumsy own goal will worry Gooners should Arsenal complete a deal for the full-back.

Jamie Carragher has launched a scathing attack on Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi after the German’s woeful performance against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Mustafi was responsible for two of Palace’s three goals, which proved costly as the Gunners’ slipped to a 3-2 defeat and lost ground in their race to finish in the top four.

Sheffield United 2-0 Ipwsich Town: Blades on brink of return to the Premier League

Sheffield United moved to within touching distance of the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Ipswich at Bramall Lane.

Goals from Scott Hogan and Jack O’Connell all but secured the Blades a return to the top-flight, with only a freak set of results denying them automatic promotion now.

Chris WIlder’s side are six points clear of third-placed side Leeds, who have two games left to play, but boast a vastly superior goal difference.

Promotion will be confirmed if Leeds fail to beat in-form Aston Villa at Elland Road on Sunday.

United boss Chris Wilder made one change to his starting line-up with Chris Basham returning in place of Martin Cranie. Billy Sharp returned the substitutes’ bench after recovering from injury.

Relegated Ipswich showed four changes with Myles Kenlock, Cole Skuse, Teddy Bishop and Kayden Jackson all coming in.

The hosts started brightly and David McGoldrick just failed to connect with a Basham cross in the third minute.

Ipswich boss Paul Lambert was forced to make an early change when Will Keane went off injured, with Trevoh Chalobah coming on in his place.

Hogan then went close, poking wide from John Fleck’s low cross, while Ipswich’s first effort came when Flynn Downes put a 25-yard effort wide.

Hogan opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a deft touch from O’Connell’s ball in to ease the tension among the home supporters.

Blades skipper Ollie Norwood saw his shot blocked following a corner routine, while a fine ball from McGoldrick found George Baldock but the chance went begging.

Norwood went close to extending United’s lead three minutes after the break when his angled free-kick struck the far post.

Norwood then turned provider, sending over a perfect cross from the right which was met by McGoldrick but the ex-Ipswich striker headed into the side netting – prompting a section of home fans to celebrate, thinking it had gone the other side of the post.

Top scorer Sharp received a tremendous reception when he was sent on as a replacement for Hogan in the 63rd minute. He was soon involved, threatening to go through on goal before Skuse stopped him with a timely interception.

John Egan headed over from a Norwood corner before United extended their lead.

The goal came in the 71st minute when Fleck’s corner was met by a close-range header from O’Connell, sparking joyous scenes among the home support.

Ipswich never threatened to make a game of it, with the home side content to keep possession for large parts of the time remaining.

Alan Judge did put a good effort on target towards the end of the match but his long-range shot was turned over the bar by keeper Dean Henderson, who was otherwise largely a spectator.

The final whistle was greeted with a thunderous roar from the 30,000-plus crowd and despite the club’s appeals to keep the pitch clear, a small number of fans did enter the field of play.

Cardiff 1-2 Chelsea: Neil Warnock’s wife supported him PUNCHING officials – ‘if you wanted to thump the referee, I wouldn’t have stopped you’

Neil Warnock has revealed his wife supported him PUNCHING the officials after Cardiff’s ‘unjust’ defeat by Chelsea.

The Bluebirds boss was still fuming when he spoke to talkSPORT on Monday morning, after suffering what he believes to be the latest referee injustice against him in Sunday̢۪s controversial defeat.

Cardiff led the west Londoners 1-0 heading into the final stages of the match – and were good value for their lead – but Warnock was left raging at the officials after Chelsea equalised through a blatantly offside goal.

Chelsea went on to complete a comeback, winning 2-1.

The result leaves Cardiff five points adrift of safety ahead of a crunch basement battle against Burnley on Saturday.

Warnock was furious after Cardiff’s defeat to Chelsea

3

Warnock was furious after Cardiff’s defeat to Chelsea

As well as the offside goal Chelsea scored, Cardiff were denied a couple of relatively clear penalty calls which could have put the Bluebirds in a commanding position.

Warnock was further angered when Antonio Rudiger was shown only a yellow card despite taking down Kenneth Zohore as last man.

At the final whistle, Warnock did as everyone expected and spoke to the officials to express his frustrations – and he told talkSPORT his wife, Sharon, gave him permission to hit the referee and his linesmen.

He said: â€Å“When I came in yesterday, my wife said to me: ‘darling, if you had wanted to thump the referee and linesman, I wouldn’t have stopped you’. It was so unjust.”

Warnock continued by going on a lengthy rant about the state of officiating in English football, and he called out PGMOL chief Mike Riley over the failures of referees at the highest level.

â€Å“I’m obviously gutted,” he added.

â€Å“You could imagine what the dressing room was like. We played so well and I’m really proud of them, but once again we’ve been kicked in the teeth.

â€Å“We’ve worked our socks off for three weeks to get where we were, because we thought we could beat Chelsea and we did everything right, but then a human error like this?

â€Å“It’s just… well it’s unbelievable. I can’t describe my feelings.

â€Å“That could be the decision that costs us everything, because I thought we could put pressure on the other clubs, but now we’re battling against the odds again.

â€Å“I thought we had some major decisions [go against us] yesterday.

Warnock lost his temper on the touchline

3

Warnock lost his temper on the touchline

â€Å“The linesman yesterday said sorry to me after the game, but it’s too late, what good is an apology?!

â€Å“We’re having too many honest mistakes and it’s always the top teams who get the decisions.

â€Å“You just feel it’s such an injustice, and I’ve felt like that ever since Christmas.

â€Å“You almost begin to think, is it me? Is it payback time for all the years I’ve shouted at referees? Have they all got together now and said, ‘let’s get him out of this place’?

â€Å“I used to think that about one or two refs, but when I speak to them they’re not like that and I know they’re not like that.

â€Å“I just don’t think they’re educated enough at the top level. I don’t think things will change now until Mike Riley goes, which is very unlikely because he’s got himself rooted so far in.

â€Å“They should have better coaching. Mike Riley is in charge of referees but as a referee he was like a robot, he had no feelings and he didn’t know anything about the game.

â€Å“Like Bill Shankly used to say: ‘You know the law but you don’t know the game’.

â€Å“That’s how Mike Riley was, and he’s training all his referees now. They’re all the same, they’re trying to be robots.”

Before next weekend’s trip to Burnley, Cardiff host title contenders Manchester City this midweek.

Following his ranting at the officials, Warnock has risked the wrath of the FA by suggesting he will play the kids against Pep Guardiola̢۪s side, to ensure his first XI is fully rested and prepared for the Clarets.

But, speaking on Monday̢۪s Sports Breakfast, Warnock said he could go one step further and leave his team selection up to fate, and that he may not even show up for the game!

â€Å“Well, we’re going to put all the names in the hat for that and see who wants to go,” said the Cardiff boss.

â€Å“And I’ve told Kevin Blackwell [his assistant coach] that I’ve got the flu coming on.”
