Crouch scored a stunning overhead kick against Galatasaray when he connected sweetly with Steve Finnan’s cross as Liverpool won 3-2 at Anfield in 2006.

Retweeting the official Champions League account on Twitter when asking for fans to pick their favourite, he said: “These players have won loads.

“Give me a break.

“I could tell the kids who I beat.”

Since then, Ronaldo, Bale and Mandzukic have all scored similar overhead kicks against Juventus, Liverpool and Real Madrid, respectively.

Reds fans will remember the Welshman’s volley in their 3-1 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid last season.
