The value of playing in English football’s top division has never been clearer.
At the end of a thrilling season which saw Manchester City crowned champions, clubs received a lump sum from the Premier League.

Manchester City edged Liverpool to the title, but who earned the most money?
Details of these payments have now been revealed and the figures are staggering, with £2.45billion shared among the 20 top-flight clubs.
It pays to be on TV and finish higher up the league, with distribution of the Premier League’s UK broadcast revenues based partly on a club’s number of live games and league position.
Nonetheless, everyone is guaranteed a huge pay day, with 50 per cent of UK TV money shared equally.
How is the money shared?
UK broadcast revenues
- 50 per cent equally shared by all clubs
- 25 per cent shared based on how often a club’s matches are broadcast in the UK (known as ‘Facility Fees’)
- 25 per cent shared based on where a club finish in the league table (known as ‘Merit Payments’)
Central Commercial revenues
- Equally shared by all clubs
International broadcasting revenues
- Eqaully shared by all clubs
This season, every club received an equal amount of money generated from international broadcasting, but that will change next term after the top six clubs won their battle to earn a greater share.
They argue that, with more fans abroad, they are responsible for the lions share of money made from foreign territories – and the gulf in wealth between the top six and the rest will only grow after the Premier League granted their wish.
The final payment comes from central commercial revenues, which is also shared equally.
