Liverpool locals hoped to make it a horrible night for the Barcelona squad on the eve of Tuesday evening’s Champions League semi-final second leg clash – by setting off fireworks to disturb their sleep.
Videos have emerged on social media showing people lighting fireworks in the vicinity of the Hilton Liverpool City Centre Hotel, with bangs in the area heard from 2am on Tuesday morning until around 4:30am.
Lionel Messi and Co. checked in to the hotel on Monday as accommodation while they attempt to reach this season’s Champions League final.
Barca hold all the cards heading into the second leg as they won the first leg 3-0 at Camp Nou last week.

A selection of individuals – likely Liverpool fans – took it upon themselves to ruin Barca’s preparations by disturbing their sleep with loud explosions from fireworks.
The fireworks appear to have been set off from different areas around the hotel, while a male can be heard in one video saying: ‘wake up call for Mr Messi’.
