Manchester City held their nerve to win one of the most thrilling title races in Premier League history.
Pep Guardiola’s men wrapped up the league by a single point with a 4-1 victory at Brighton to crush Liverpool’s hopes of a first top-flight triumph since 1990.

Guardiola has won back-to-back titles
But the scoreline doesn’t tell the entire story – and at one point the title was heading to Merseyside.
Fresh from witnessing the miraculous 4-0 victory over Barcelona, Anfield believed anything was possible, and Liverpool struck first when Sadio Mane turned in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross in the 17th minute.

Mane put Liverpool in front
Reds supporters dared to dream when news quickly filtered through of a shock goal at Brighton – Glenn Murray put the Seagulls in front from a corner.

Glenn Murray briefly put Brighton ahead
But their joy was short-lived as Sergio Aguero provided more final-day heroics, equalising for the visitors instantaneously after clever work from David Silva.

Aguero hit back immediately
Nonetheless, with Liverpool ahead, only a victory would see City lift the Premier League trophy – and they found a second ten minutes later through Aymeric Laporte’s header.

Laporte grabbed the all-important second
From that moment on, Liverpool’s hopes were dashed and City never looked back.

Mahrez added a brilliant third

Gundagon rounded things off
Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan put the shine on a dominant second-half display, while Mane struck again to ensure Liverpool finish second on a staggering, record-breaking 97 points.

Mane ensured Liverpool did all they could
And so the celebrations began.
While City lavished in the south-coast sunshine, Liverpool were left to reflect on an incredible Premier League campaign which reaped no reward.
