Leeds United 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday: Watch as blind woman’s guide dog celebrates Jack Harrison’s winning goal

Elland Road went crazy when Jack Harrison scored Leeds United’s winning goal against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

And as well as all the people dancing in celebration, there was also the heartwarming sight of a guide dog going just as crazy as the humans in attendance.

Harrison’s goal keeps Leeds in the automatic promotion race

The assistance dog, Rita, is owned by a woman called Nikki who previously featured in a video to explain how football has helped her deal with losing her sight.

The duo go to every Leeds game, and even watch the Whites’ Under-23s in action.

Twitter user @Sean_Clare shared a video taken inside Elland Road of Rita and Nikki after Harrison scored what proved to be the winning goal of Saturday’s match.

Rita, who can be seen wearing a Leeds United badge, puts her paws on Nikki’s lap and barks like crazy as everyone around celebrates the strike.

Leeds’ win, coupled with Sheffield United dropping points at home to Millwall, moves Marcelo Bielsa’s side back into the Championship’s top two as the race for automatic promotion goes down to the wire.

Football: Tunisian club win African title after final abandoned over video assistant referee

JOHANNESBURG (AFP) - Esperance won the CAF Champions League in Tunisia Saturday (June 1) after Wydad Casablanca refused to continue playing on 60 minutes because VAR was unavailable to judge a disallowed equaliser.
The Tunisian side were leading 1-0 in the second leg of the final and 2-1 overall when play was halted, and after a 90-minute delay the referee awarded the match to the home side.
Tunisian media reported that officials were aware before the match that the VAR (video assistant referee) system was not working, but the players seemingly did not know.
It is the first time in the 55-year history of the elite African club competition that a match in the home-and-away final series has not been completed.
Wydad believed they had levelled on 59 minutes when Walid el Karti headed a cross into the net. TV replays confirmed he was onside, but might have fouled an opponent with his shoulder.
The Moroccan team insisted that the Gambian referee check with VAR, apparently unaware that the often-controversial system was unavailable.
Wydad substitutes and 69-year-old coach Faouzi Benzarti joined in the protests and police foiled an attempted assault by a spectator wearing the red and gold of Esperance.
Plastic bottles containing liquid were also flung toward the Wydad players and coaches as tempers flared.
At one stage, CAF president Ahmad Ahmad and the bosses of Esperance and Wydad spoke on the side of the pitch without succeeding in getting the match restarted.
The Wydad players and coaches eventually went to the changing room and, after a long delay, the referee indicated that Esperance had been awarded the match.
There was widespread criticism of the debacle on social media with many tweets saying that calling off the club showpiece brought shame to African football.

The abandonment occurred just 20 days before an expanded 24-team Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Egypt, with VAR scheduled to be used during the knockout phase.
VAR had played a major role in the first leg of the final in Morocco last weekend, with referrals ruling out a goal by Wydad and later appeals for a penalty by the Moroccans.
The Egyptian referee of that match was subsequently banned for six months with CAF saying his performance was "poor".
Three-time former champions Esperance took the lead on 41 minutes when Youcef Belaili curled a shot into the net from the edge of the box at the Stade Olympique.
The Tunisian outfit dominated the opening half and fully deserved to lead at half-time in the 60,000-seater stadium.
But the way Esperance ultimately won the competition for a second successive time took much of the gloss off the achievement.
They are only the fourth club - after Al Ahly of Egypt, TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Enyimba of Nigeria - to achieve back-to-back Champions League triumphs.
And by going through their 2019 CAF campaign unbeaten - equalling the achievement of the 1994 squad - Esperance became the first club to win the competition twice without losing a match.
It was also a special night for 37-year-old coach Moine Chaabani, who became the first from north Africa to win two Champions League finals in a row.
Tunis citizens reacted to the triumph by pouring into the streets and screaming joyfully while cars and motorbikes crisscrossed the capital, honking horns.
Many Esperance supporters flocked to the district where the club was formed 100 years ago in a cafe of the same name.

Manchester United transfer latest: Juventus to offer Paulo Dybala AND Alex Sandro in order to bring Paul Pogba back – reports

Juventus are reportedly willing to offer Paulo Dybala and Alex Sandro to Manchester United this summer.

However, the Red Devils will have to swap World Cup winner Paul Pogba in order to do so.

The France midfielder has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford for the past 12 months, with Real Madrid seemingly his most likely destination.

Zinedine Zidane is reportedly ready to meet United’s £120m valuation of the 26-year-old, but may need to offload outcast Gareth Bale in order to do so.

While Juve may not possess the necessary funds to make a deal happen, they do have something which could turn the odds in their favour.

According to the Daily Express, Juventus want to use United’s interest in Dybala and Sandro to their advantage.

The Old Lady are ready to offer both players in order to bring Pogba back to Turin.

The central midfielder left Old Trafford for Juve in 2012 – winning four successive Serie A titles.

But Champions League success has continued to elude the Italians, who were dumped out of this year’s competition at the quarter-final stage by Ajax.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned the Red Devils board he wants all of his transfer dealing done by July 1.

Having missed out on Champions League football for next year, the Norwegian is painfully aware of how far off the pace United are, particularly behind champions Manchester City and arch-rivals Liverpool.

Chelsea 4-3 (agg 5-3) Slavia Prague: Maurizio Sarri bemoans his side’s start to the second-half as Blues labour to Europa League semi-finals

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri admitted his players made life difficult for themselves following their Europa League quarter-final triumph over Slavia Prague.

The Blues won 4-3 at Stamford Bridge, going through 5-3 on aggregate in a contest that saw Sarri’s men race to a 3-0 lead after just 15 minutes.

It was set to be a rout when Giroud’s finish put the Chelsea 3-0 up

3

It was set to be a rout when Giroud’s finish put the Chelsea 3-0 up

But Chelsea have developed a nasty habit of conceding early in the second half and once again there were some hairy moments as the visitors hit back twice to trail by just one on the night.

“We played very well in the first half,” said Blues boss Sarri. “But as usual in the last two months we started very badly in the second half.

“We need a solution. In the last 10 matches we started like in this match, it’s a big problem.

“Probably at the end of the first half we thought we had qualified, but against this opponent it was not true. I have never seen something like these opponents physically, so it was clear the second half could be difficult for us.

Sarri recognises there’s a problem with his side’s start to the second-half of games

3

Sarri recognises there’s a problem with his side’s start to the second-half of games

“But we did something wrong in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

“At half-time I told them to start with the same application as they started the first, but we didn’t do it. It’s not easy to understand.

“I could try without going in the dressing room at half-time if I could solve the problem.”

Pedro opened the scoring following a flowing move involving Cesar Azpilicueta and Olivier Giroud, with the Spaniard applying the finish.

Pedro bagged a brace

Pedro bagged a brace

Pedro should have claimed the second but he somehow side-footed Eden Hazard’s inviting ball across goal on to the post.

Fortunately for the Blues the ball ricocheted into luckless defender Simon Deli and bounced into the net.

N’Golo Kante then set Pedro through to tee up Giroud for his 10th goal in the competition this season.

That should have been that, but Chelsea’s defence dozed off in the 26th minute to allow the unmarked Tomas Soucek to pull one back with a header at the far post.

Chelsea merely went straight down the other end and restored their four-goal cushion, Pedro pouncing on the rebound after Giroud’s close-range effort was saved.

Yet a 5-1 aggregate lead at half-time became 5-3 only 10 minutes into the second half, a quickfire double from Petr Sevcik raising the Czech side’s hopes of a staging remarkable comeback.

But Chelsea weathered the storm to set up a semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Hazard, the subject of a couple of clattering early challenges, was taken off midway through the second half, but Sarri hopes he will be fit to face Burnley on Monday.

“It’s nothing serious, I hope,” he added. “It’s only a strong knock. But I think we can recover him for the next match on Monday.”

Disappointed Slavia coach Jindrich Trpisovsky said: “We scored three goals, but it is only a little remedy after the first half.”

Brendan Rodgers spent two-and-a-half seasons at Celtic

He enjoyed remarkable success with the Hoops by winning back-to-back trebles of Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup.

The club were on for an historic treble treble this season, but Rodgers gave that up to instead return to English football as Leicester manager, succeeding Claude Puel.

Speaking at the launch of this year’s BT Sport Pub Cup, Hartson told talkSPORT.com: “I thought the timing was wrong from Brendan.

“I think the Celtic fans would have appreciated if he’d have said he was leaving at the end of the season but stuck around for the potential treble treble.

“I know he brought incredible success before he left but I just think it was the way it happened.

“If Leicester wanted their man, they would have waited. If he’d have said he had a job to do and he’d not finished what he’d done at Celtic then I think the fans would have understood.”

Hartson scored 109 goals in 201 games for Celtic during a five-season spell with the club.

Hartson continued: â€Å“It was the way it happened so quickly and the way that he portrayed that he was possibly going to stay to take Celtic onto the next level in Europe.

Celtic legend reveals when Rodgers is leaving the club

Real lose all in space of a week

Real lose all in space of a week

MADRID ̢ۢ Real Madrid have been European champions for 1,012 days, but their time is up.
On June 1, the 2019 Champions League final will be held just 14km away at the home of rivals Atletico but, for the first time after reaching and winning three straight finals, Los Blancos will not be there.
In one week at the Bernabeu they have been dumped out of the King's Cup, thrust 12 points off the pace in LaLiga, and exited the competition they made their own.
When the end came, it was brutal. But it was also brilliant. Ajax went to Madrid on Tuesday night and tore them to bits, winning 4-1 and 5-3 on aggregate in the last 16.
Their "s*** season", in Real defender Dani Carvajal's words, is now over in March.
But it is also true that Ajax were very good. Goals from Hakim Ziyech, David Neres, Dusan Tadic and Lasse Schone were the consequence of a collective superiority that was startling. They are deservedly through: too fast, too incisive, too well-organised against a team who are disintegrating, a generation that has come to a close.
"I have never had this feeling before," Carvajal said. "I don't know how to explain it. It's so bad. In a week we lost it all, we lost it all at home. Is it the end of an era? I don't see it like that but it is true the season is practically finished for us."

His coach Santiago Solari said afterwards "so much had happened", and he was right.
Real suffered three injuries, Lucas Vazquez and Vinicius Jr withdrawn within half an hour and Gareth Bale limping through the final minutes.
They also hit the post twice. Nacho was sent off in added time. And there was a five-minute wait for the video assistant referee to mistakenly allow Ajax's third goal, after the ball went out of play in the build-up to Tadic's strike.
Captain Sergio Ramos, whose defensive prowess might have made a difference, was suspended after intentionally getting booked in the first leg in hopes of having a clean slate in the quarter-finals. His decision must surely feel daft as he watched from the stands.
And yet sometimes for all the analysis, all the detail, there is a simple truth and that was the case here: Ajax were simply better than Real, much of it owing to a Zinedine Zidane-inspired Tadic.
The Serbian midfielder said he took inspiration from the Real legend, ironically, for what he described as the game of his life.
Ajax had lost 2-1 at home and knew they needed to score at least two but little did they know they would get the goals so soon.
In just 18 minutes, the 30-year-old Tadic laid on passes for Ziyech and Neres to give them a two-goal lead. He then capped a virtuoso display with a thunderous finish to make it 3-0 just after the hour.
Real were surprisingly passive; Ajax were aggressive, the precision at pace impressive, the mastery of space even more so.
"This is probably the best game of football I've ever played," Tadic said. "We beat the best club in the world. I think we made a lot of people happy tonight."

  • 9

Years since Real Madrid last failed to advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. They are also the first reigning champions not to make the last eight since Chelsea in 2013.

  • 4-1

Real's loss was their biggest margin of defeat in a home knockout match in European competition.

Tadic, who joined the Dutch side last year after struggling for consistency in four years at English club Southampton, outshone Real's star midfield trio of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro.
"Zidane was always my favourite player. Maybe I was watching too many of his clips," he added.
Marco Asensio gave Real hope with an assured finish. But it lasted only two minutes, as Schone sent a bending free kick into the top corner to seal the win.
Solari insisted he would not resign even after Real failed to reach the competition's quarter-finals for the first time since 2010.
He was handed a contract until 2021 when he was appointed in November but the humiliating defeat means he may not last the season, let alone beyond the summer.
"I did not come to the club in such a difficult moment to give up," Solari said.
"These players were champions of Europe three years in a row, now they have been knocked out and it's a very sad moment which puts into perspective how difficult it is to win the European Cup."

Noel Gallagher reveals why Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva is his Player of the Season

Some might say Raheem Sterling has been Manchester City’s best player this season, but Noel Gallagher has opted for the supersonic Bernardo Silva.

The Oasis legend and die-hard Manchester City fan believes the Portuguese maestro has the sort of attitude which objectively endears him to any football fan.

Silva emerged as a key player for City during an incredible season which eventually saw them pip Liverpool to the Premier League title on the final day.

In the prolonged absence of Kevin De Bruyne, the versatile Silva ensured Pep Guardiola’s relentless midfield machine kept running – and Gallagher has him down as Player of the Season.

Silva was exceptional this season

“He’s someone who’s thrived without De Bruyne. When he puts him into the middle of the midfield, he’s dynamite.

“He’s got that thing that every football supporter in the world loves. He’s like Tevez. He just never, ever, ever gives up. He celebrates goals like he’s a child and he’s one of us now.

“They’re all great lads but he would be my Player of the Season.”

Silva was among the nominees for PFA Player of the year alongside team-mates Sterling and Sergio Aguero – although the prize ended up going to Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, while Sterling won the Football Writers’ award.

Gallagher joined in the celebrations as City beat Brighton 4-1 at the Amex on Sunday – and even belted out ‘Wonderwall’ with the players in the dressing room.

He reveals that, in a private exchange with Guardiola, the Spaniard fired an ominous warning to the rest of the Premier League.

He added: “At the game yesterday, we were lucky enough to get taken into the dressing room with all the players.

“We were talking to Pep after the game and he said something to me which was just mind blowing.

“He grabbed us and he said, ‘Next season, we’ll be even better’. And I just thought, ‘How?’”
